RIP, Coretta Scott King
I’m sorry I didn’t mention this earlier. RIP, Coretta Scott King. At the risk of sounding totally disrespectful, coincidentally, last night the geekboy and I watched the MLK episode of The Boondocks, and we spent some time discussing the premise of the ep – what if Dr. King hadn’t died that day? The show gave us the worst-case scenario (Dr. King gives up on America and moves to Canada to get away from the ignant), but it certainly was food for thought.
Bull charges bullfight spectators
Shannon emailed me this story about a bull who charged into the stands during a bullfight. The mayor says, “We need to take preventative measures to avoid that a situation of this nature happens again.” Why are people surprised when animals act like animals? Abuse animals for fun and profit and then when they panic and try to save themselves, stab them to death. Pathetic.
Morningwood
Big thanks to The Rockers for practically begging the internet to check out a little band called Morningwood. I’m a big fan of their single “Nth Degree,” but I finally picked up the full-length CD and it’s superfun. Yes, the name is kind of stupid, but they fricking RAWK, my friends.
Alito
“Alito Seen as Carrying the Torch of Reagan.” KILL ME NOW. I also cannot get the song “Lido Shuffle” out of my head. Sing it, go ahead – “Alito! Whoa oh oh ohhhhh!” Ugh.
Stripped Books – A Comics Panel: Chris Ware, Seth and Ivan Brunetti
A treat for you comic nerds out there – An illustrated panel discussion between Chris Ware, Seth, and Ivan Brunetti.
Paris Hilton is Stupid
“It is like a weird Greek name. Like Douglas.†Oh, Paris. Just by living on the same planet as the rest of us, you’ve made us collectively dumber. You receive no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.
Yum
Last night I christened my new KitchenAid with a batch of chocolate chip cookies with almonds. Hell to the yes. I couldn’t love this appliance more. And the cookies are outstanding, if I do say so myself. I also grilled up some excellent chicken on our fake Foreman Grill, after giving it a nice coating of this chipotle seasoning. Over the weekend, we stopped in to this shop in New Hope, and picked up a few things, including that “Pain is Good” stuff. I noticed the same company makes Bloody Mary mix. I need some, immediately.
Happy Birthday S.John
Even though we haven’t seen too much of S.John around these parts lately, let’s wish him a Happy Birthday!
Playwright Wendy Wasserstein Dies
RIP, Wendy Wasserstein. Sad. I didn’t know she was fighting cancer. I’ve loved her work for years and years; a few years back I saw a great production of her play The Sisters Rosensweig. Sigh. Thank you for being an inspiration, Wendy.
