Anyone know of a good way to control whiteflies? They aren’t bothering my herbs or tomatoes, but they are all over my flowers and are pissing me off.

I signed up on one of those survey sites to answer product surveys in exchange for coupons, cash, or entries into prize pools. The money you can make on these things is pathetic, but I love answering surveys and I love knowing about new products before they hit the market. Last week I product-tested a new deodorant (one that came in an unlabelled yet very familiar powder-blue container), which boasted to be “prescription strength” but didn’t live up to its promise. Yesterday I got a survey in my email asking me to look at an advertisement and tell them what I think. This proposed product was so obnoxious, I could hardly believe it. Maybe I’m overreacting; you tell me what you think. [WARNING: TALK ABOUT LADY THINGS AHEAD!] The product was maxi-pads. They want to start packaging a “personal wipe” with each pad, because “don’t you sometimes feel like when you’re changing your pad, you need a shower?” WHAT. THE. HELL. For starters, pads are wasteful enough – now they want to add more crap you have to throw away? And, more importantly, they are playing into the myth that menstruating women are unclean and must wash constantly during their dirty time of the month. This really gets on my last nerve. I provided them with appropriate feedback.

Tomorrow night we are going to see Duran Duran. Squeee! Me, Janet, Lisa, and Charlotte will all be bopping around and singing just like 1985, darlings. We hope to have a little tailgate party in the parking lot before the show, natch, if the weather agrees. I was thinking about wearing the geekboy’s vintage Duran Duran tee-shirt – it looks like this – but I’m not sure of band shirt etiquette. We all know it’s uncool to wear the current tee-shirt of the band you’re going to see (Droz: You’re gonna wear the shirt of the band you’re gonna go see. Don’t be that guy.), but does the rule change if the shirt is nearly 20 years old?

It’s really lovely outside today. We had a five-minute rain yesterday and the temperature immediately dropped more than 10 degrees. We opened all the windows to bask in the fresh air. So, I think I’ll take advantage of the weather and go outside to hang a new birdfeeder, treat the porch for ants, and clean up the remnants of Long Leg’s killing spree/vomit-fest from last night. Thanks to the geekboy for getting most of it taken care of before I even woke up.
