Cupcake Question

Friday, October 26, 2007 at 08:50am

I’m going to make some apple cupcakes this weekend for a family dinner. What flavor frosting do you think would be the best? Vanilla (which would add an a la mode feel)? Ginger? Cinnamon? Apple pie spice (cinnamon and nutmeg-y)?

I wanted to try apple cupcakes with a cinnamon brown sugary crumble on top and then a drizzle of white icing. Like the pumpkin muffins at Dunkin Donuts. But I’ve never baked anything without using a recipe and I’m scared.

I say something with cream cheese! But then, I would eat my own boogers if they had cream cheese frosting on them.

Okay, not really. I’m dry heaving a little just typing that. But I think my point has been made? Cream cheese frosting = heaven.

Laura, I agree. Last time I made apple cupcakes, I did a cream cheese frosting with drizzled caramel and we all nearly came to blows over sharing them. Bliss.

This time I’m going to attempt a swiss meringue buttercream, although my last foray into smbc did not go well. It literally tastes like melted vanilla ice cream. Oh man.

I agree. If the SMBC comes out, I will put in vanilla, some cinammon, then tint it orange (for Halloween!).

Given the total boozefest of a weekend I just had, can you do a Gin & Tonic frosting?

Gin and tonic sweetie darling, mwah mwah!
