CNN, I’ve read The Onion. I’ve loved The Onion. The Onion is a friend of mine. CNN, you’re no Onion.

Seriously, is that the point here? That people might want to make t-shirts from funny headlines? Or that politically active people might want to make t-shirts from headlines that support their world view: “Death Toll Climbs In Iraq” or “Clinton Can’t Mathematically Win”? Because they’re not really doing a great job of selling the idea.

I seriously don’t understand. It’s funny when you manipulate it (which apparently is super easy), but is that the point? We’re literally selling the news now?

Like most things CNN does, this attempt at ironic t-shirts is just plain lame.

Now if it was my all-time favorite headline (Rosie O’Donnell Marries Partner, Slams Bush), I might consider it.

Perhaps this guy is running their apparel marketing division:

Well, maybe if a headline mentioned Kylie Minogue or Mr. Ben Affleck, but otherwise, not so much. That said, I can’t help checking in every now and then to see if a ridiculous headline is t-shirtable. There may be a jewel yet to be found!

(I’m not a CNN.com reader, but this was started as a sort of self-deprecating gesture, right? Like an acknowledgment that CNN.com headlines are notoriously poorly-written or just plain dumb. The Atlanta Journal Constitution could beat them by a mile in this category, though–maybe the idea will spread.)

Is it a shirt that says, “We’re sorry. An error has occurred, please try again later.” Because I don’t get it. Does CNN have a lot of errors?

    “CNN: We have errors.”

I think maybe, they just are having an error, which is a shame, cause I’d love to own a shirt that says I am having an error…then I could just stand in one spot and not move and no one would it’s weird, they’d be like, “Oh, we’ll try back later, she is having an error.”

It amazes me sometimes but I guess there is a market for everything… even if it’s lame.

This reminds me of the episode of Gilmore Girls where Kirk made up shirts for random things he saw happening. Example: “Babette had toast!” (or something to that effect). It was lame but paid off at the end of the episode when Lorelai put a shirt on Rory’s bed that said “Rory’s going to Yale!” But I have to say if CNN is taking a page out of Kirk’s book, they must be headed for some dark times.

    Oh, Kirk.

hey Kirk is on “October Road!!” but not nearly as funny as when he played Kirk.
