Changes

This week I did a little bit of redecorating in the loft area upstairs. It was crowded with family photos and the litterbox and bookcases — it needed streamlining. Those of you who have been to my home would probably attest that this area was a bit cluttered. See what I did, after the jump.

redecorating the loft
I bought a bamboo screen from Overstock.com and put it around the litterbox to hide the ugly (and the stink). Took down all the photos and got rid of/put away everything I don’t need out there.

To add some color to this very beige space, I bought four scrapbook background pages from Michael’s. Found four square frames to match, and there you go.

So far I’m pleased with how it looks. I’d love to find a chocolate or deep orange chair or something, though.

  1. I like it! Scrapbook pages are a great idea.

  2. I like the scrapbook idea too – and I’ve got a bunch of blank walls staring at me in my office, so I think I might steal it for my space.

  3. LOVE! Looks so clean and fresh. :)

  4. Seriously, why didn’t I think about the screen idea before? Our cat litter is also in our (still underused) loft and is such a hideous addition. I’m totally stealing your great idea. I know what a big job getting rid of clutter is, so I applaud you. Looks fab.

  5. I don’t know why it took me so long to figure out a screen would work, either. Duh!

    And thank you.

  6. Looks great! Pete asked ‘where’s that?’ when I showed him. So-job well done :) Any plans for the tv tray? xoxo

  7. I have seen some great cute chairs at overstock.com lately, and the shipping is super cheap, just fyi. It looks great!

  8. So clean and awesome looking! come do my place.

I’m still in process of finishing a cat litter hiding solution….. simple idea…but no access to power tools basically slowed it down. Anyway….found a large toy box at a second hand store… inserted a cat door in side, bingo-bango, hidden cat litter! Just have to get paint for it now….and TIME to work on it.

  9. You are Martha Stewart Girl…. Not FreakGirl. ;) as for the chair… Find an awesome fabric with some “pull” (stretchy-ish) and buy reupolstering tacks that simply screw into the frame of any old chair. Super simple. Easy, fast and looks great. (bit for some reason, I keep imagining a Papasan chair fromy college days. You know, the round pillow ones, on a wicker sort of frame. In that case, you could easily make a slipcover… Or two… Or, a reversible one!
Finally, I think you should center some old 45s in those scrapbook pages to give depth and personality to the space.

    Opinions, opinions… just my 2 cents. ;)

  10. Soosan, I would have loved to have a cat box like that, but I can’t because Meena is a freak. I use this cat box so she can’t pee out the side:

McCall, I have a papsan-like chair (but with a metal frame). The print doesn’t quite match, but it might with some freshening up. Really cool idea about the old 45s, too!
