Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Sláinte! Any big plans tonight? My awesome roommate threw some corned beef into the crock pot along with two pints of Guinness. Yum!

Things I’m Up To

Life is busy, busy! Working, skating, working, skating. I dropped off my taxes last week and have to pick them up this week. Not looking forward to that, as I owe quite a bit. Ugh. Self-employment is great, but when you save up to pay taxes and then have unexpected expenses — not so much. Here’s hoping I soon get hired on at the company where I’m currently working. Because working one full-time and one freelance job — plus figuring out how to make room for other freelance jobs on the side — is killing me.

Derby is going well. Still working on my hitting skills but I think I’m making progress as an inside blocker. I also play pivot in some scrimmages — not because I like it but because I need to understand it in order to be a better inside blocker. Still loving the team and loving the experience.

Missing Meena a lot, but it gets a little easier each day. There’s an empty spot in my house and my heart without her.

I’m currently reading two books:

9781400042357

I Think I Love You, by Allison Pearson. It’s a novel about a 1970s girl and her obsession with David Cassidy. So far, very cute book.

Just Kids, Patti Smith. Winner of the National Book Award and Patti’s memoirs. It’s not a surprise that she has a breathtaking way with words.

Thursday, I leave for a long weekend to visit my sister and nieces in Florida. I really need a break, so I’m hoping for good weather and some quality family time.

Brilliant. Although I don’t think I could handle it. Especially college kids. Filth.

Happy Thanksgiving

snoopy-thanksgiving-pumpkin-3

Happy Thanksgiving Day, all! And if you’re not here in the States, then Happy Thursday. Even though it’s been quite the shitful year, I still have a few things I’m thankful for, if you’ll indulge me:

  • My family, especially my parents, who took such good care of me when I was sick
  • My friends, always
  • ROLLER DERBY
  • Jon Hamm
  • Wine
  • And YOU, dear reader. You.
