He Is Iron Man

Friday, May 02, 2008 at 06:42pm

tony stark

This afternoon we caught a matinee of Iron Man. Oh my gah, it was so good. Jon Favreau did a stellar job, and Robert Downey Jr. is the motherflipping HOTNESS, you have no idea. And Fishsticks didn’t even annoy me. Go see it. Try to spot Peter “Ralphie” Billingsley in a cameo. And stick around for the credits.

Discuss in the comments - obviously SPOILERS abound.

Nickelodeon Nights Free Film Series

Thursday, May 01, 2008 at 08:21am

I want to give some props to our friend Sara, who has started a film series in her (and the geekboy’s) hometown of Lambertville, NJ. You can see a free movie every Saturday night, and in the summer it moves to an outdoor venue. May’s schedule looks particularly fun — check it out here. If you’re local, sign up for the mailing list.

And donations are always welcome.

Here’s a video of the cast and crew of Reaper lip-syncing to Public Enemy’s “Can’t Truss It.” Totally random and totally awesome. Read the rest of this entry »

Amy Poehler is Pregnant!

Monday, April 28, 2008 at 04:55pm

OMG this news makes me so happy! I just told somebody the other day that I couldn’t wait for Amy Poehler to get pregnant. I have no idea why. I can’t wait to see her do Amber preggers. JELLUS?

Wes Anderson

Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:56am

On Saturday I had a conversation with Charlie and the geekboy about my love for Wes Anderson, spurred on by re-watching The Darjeeling Limited last week, and repeated viewings of The Royal Tenenbaums on cable over the past month. About his visuals and his music and how his films are just so saturated with beauty. How sometimes a single scene can squeeze your heart until you almost can’t breathe (Richie Tenenbaum’s shaving scene, the funeral in Darjeeling). Searching around on YouTube, I found these. NYC Comic-Con 2008

Monday, April 21, 2008 at 08:18am

So, the NYC Comic-Con was pretty fun. It had its problems (Saturday’s panels were ridiculously crowded and woefully unorganized) but we did enjoy ourselves and saw a lot of stuff and bought a lot of crap and all that. We grabbed some extra swag and once I get everything organized, I’ll be giving it away here on freakgirl.com. The geekboy’s recap is here.

A few photos after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

NYC Comic Con

Guess where we’re going tomorrow and Saturday? We have press passes this year, which makes navigating the clusterf*ck a lot easier. I’ll be bringing my camera and I’m hoping to have a lot of good stories for you on Monday. Anyone else going?

Artie Lange is Losing It

Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 09:46am

Artie walks off the Stern show after physically lashing out at his assistant. I was telling the geekboy earlier that I’m increasingly uncomfortable listening to Howard Stern lately, as Artie Lange gets more and more depressed, unhealthy and angry. It’s not funny and it’s not fun. Blarg.

Nooooo! Not Tony Marchette!

Yawn

Wednesday, April 09, 2008 at 09:18am

I don’t have much to talk about this morning. Here’s one thing, though. Beth and I went out to dinner last night (mmmm, Cuban) and afterwards dropped by a local bar to grab an after-dinner beer. As we chatted, we noticed American Idol on the television sets. I don’t really follow AI, so I have no idea about anything. But I just have to comment…Jordan Castro confuses me. We must be getting old, because our initial reaction was, “Is that a boy or a girl?” Ugh, the hair. Every time I see dreadlocks I wonder what they must smell like.

“It’s a bit spooky, innit?” said Rick Astley, the singer who made the song famous in 1987 and who is not dead.

I Thought She Was Cute

Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 11:03am

I thought Britney did a decent job on last night’s How I Met Your Mother. The episode as a whole wasn’t the funniest they’ve ever done, but the storyline was sweet and I thought Britney played the dorky receptionist just fine. She even made me laugh out loud once or twice.
