Birthday Cupcakes

birthday cupcakes

It was Greater Czarina’s daughter’s birthday this weekend — our little Czarinette is now 13 years old and barreling nicely into teenagedom and all that comes with it (Twilight obsesh, boysboysboys). Anyhoo, these are chocolate and vanilla, rolled in happy sprinklies and topped with fondant cutouts.

Gluten- and Dairy-Free Cupcakes

springtime cupcakes

For yesterday’s Easter dinner, I decided to try my hand at some gluten-free cupcakes, as my cousin follows a gluten-free diet. I’ve only made gluten-free cupcakes once (chocolate) and I found them to be quite gritty. So I searched online for a better recipe and came across Gluten-Free Goddess and her recipe for Orange Creme Cupcakes. Success!

Vegan Banana Split Cupcake

vegan banana split cupcakes

I made a dozen of these for my friend Sandy, who came to visit this weekend and happens to be vegan. We brought them to a friend’s house and they went over really well. I will definitely make these again. The cake is banana and pineapple, with some chopped chocolate baked in. The frosting is “butter”cream, topped with sprinkles, crushed walnuts, drizzled chocolate and a maraschino cherry. The recipe is from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. Love.

Up-cakes

Up-cakes

I made these cupcakes for our Oscar party. I’m sure you can figure out the inspiration. Before you kiss my ass for being so artistic, do know that I found the idea online. But I think they came out great. And Jeremy came up with the name. Maybe I’m not too creative, but I can execute the crap out of someone else’s idea! Anyhoo, the cakes are Amy Sedaris vanilla (with my own homemade vanilla extract) with vanilla buttercream/marshmallow fluff frosting. GOOD TIMES.

After the jump, a photo of the awesome idea Lisa came up with for “Up in the Air.”

How Was Your Weekend?

february snowstorm

We got some snow. Saturday morning Lisa and I decided to take a walk so I could pull out my much-neglected camera. I got some nice, if not generic, winter wonderland shots. It felt good, and the cinnamon latte I got at the Starbucks we walked to felt even better. Yesterday I was also inspired to pull out my yarn and I began knitting a scarf. We watched 500 Days of Summer, I balanced my checkbook and did laundry, and shoveled the driveway. Today I baked jelly donut cupcakes to take to work tomorrow. It was a good weekend. More snow photos after the jump.

A New Year

nye cupcakes

So, how was your New Year’s? Do anything fun? Friends of mine had their traditional party, so Lisa and I braved the ice and rain to bring them some champagne cupcakes and indulge the kids in some American Idol karaoke on the Wii. A good time was had by all.

Colorado Photos

Please enjoy some snaps from my trip to Colorado. I’ll tell you all about it very soon, but right now I am actually having a sick day and need to go lie back down.

Click through to Flickr to see better quality and bigger sizes. Thanks to Liz & Jill for a wonderful respite.
