I should be downstairs, prepping the kitchen for the baking of the geekboy’s birthday cake, but instead I’ve got the television on up here, waiting anxiously for the Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band performance on the Today show. JERSEY!!!
Any interesting weekend plans? Our weekend is decidedly less busy than last weekend. Early tomorrow morning, I’ll be meeting up with Beth to do a bike tour of Duke Farms. I’m trying to decide whether or not I should bring a camera. Maybe my little one. Other than that, we don’t have much else planned. Perhaps we’ll tackle some things in the garage…there is still a pile of unpacked boxes. Oy.
Jersey politics? Corrupt? Shocking. NOT.
My darling hubby wrote me a poem for our anniversary. It was so great, I just had to share it with you, internet. Enjoy. Read the rest of this entry »
Well, it finally happened. Two people died as a result of partying in the PNC Bank Arts Center parking lot, and now we can’t have a nice little tailgate party anymore. I knew it. And the two people who died were NOT underage. Sigh. Tragic and stupid. I want to say a hundred nasty things, but two people are dead and I just can’t bring myself to do it.
My day so far, in case you care - I went to the eye doctor, which is always an adventure. My doctor is located in a strip mall and she’s batshit crazy. Read the rest of this entry »

Tomorrow, while Chuck and Emilie get married down south, we’ll be heading over to Lambertville to celebrate fish. Yes, really. Actually, we’ll be hiding from the throngs here for most of the day.
Gas prices are so out of control that our Jersey governor is considering…GASP….self-serve.
I’m rapidly developing a case of the Mondays. This morning I had to go to the doctor’s to get blood drawn. On the way there, I encountered a massive amount of traffic, which is odd since I don’t take any highways to go to the doctor’s office. From what I can figure out, police have closed Route 22 completely from King George to Chimney Rock Roads. They’ve simply blocked the exit/entrance ramps and are leaving people to figure it out on their own. On my back from the doctor’s (a trip from Bridgewater to Somerset that took me about an HOUR, for those of you playing along at home), I noticed that every single side street was packed with cars; confused commuters trying to figure out where to go. I tried to be slick, figuring I’d cut through town and try to get to my area by a more roundabout way, but I was denied! Eventually I just kept driving along, and suddenly found myself in Piscataway. From there it was easy to get home. I noticed on the way, though, that there were no cops anywhere, and when I drove over Route 22, it was a ghost town. What is going on? I can’t find anything on the news. Oh, and once I finally got home, I found a dead, bloody bird on the doorstep.
Oh, and confidential to the two old men in the red pickup truck? Just because things are confusing and traffic is heavy, it does not mean you can block the intersection. Heavy congestion does not automatically render traffic lights null and void. Dumbasses.
I smoke. I buy my cigarettes, like thousands of other people, on the internet, because the NJ cigarette tax is among the highest in the nation. Read this - it happened to me today. Retroactive to 2003. I’m not even going to say how much the bill is for, but ohmygod. I’m a little confused as to why it is retroactive to 2003, after finding this. Maybe some of you out there could explain it to me? I have no problem paying the government what I owe - hell, I watched My Name Is Earl last night - but I just want to understand why I’m paying what I’m paying.
So, did Philip Morris turn me in? This might be the kick in the ass I need to quit smoking. But first, I need a cigarette, because I am STRESSED OUT. And if you have been buying smokes online in Jersey, consider yourself warned.
There’s been a story spreading online the past few days about Ryan Seacrest storming off The Jersey Guys’ show on NJ101.5 the other day after they asked him if he is gay. It was a hoax.
Probably won’t be much posting today. The Canadians arrive this afternoon, and our party is tomorrow and I’m really not ready yet. So off I go to take care of some of that stuff. I may have a little surprise for you all later, though.
Last night we looked at two townhouses. We really liked the second one and have put in an offer. Unfortunately, our offer is pretty far under their asking price, but we’re willing to negotiate a bit if they are. Haven’t heard back yet, but it’s still early. The place is actually a wee bit out of our comfort level, but we like the neighborhood and all that and have been interested in finding a place there. We’re hoping we can just manage to scrape together the extra cash somehow. Anyway, the townhouse is close to where we live now, and has three bedrooms and a deck that backs up to the golf course. Nice. As for the first place we looked at; it wasn’t too bad. There was something shady about the neighborhood, though, that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I liked the layout inside, pretty roomy, but the bedrooms were small. We went outside to see what the patio looked like. It faced another building’s set of patios, which kind of blows. I could even live with that, though, if the place was right. As our realtor showed us the patio, we noticed a family across the grass sitting out on their patio, doing something, I had no idea what. We waved and then the geekboy whispered to me, “Do you see what…did you…” and I said, “What?” and he said, “Nothing, go inside, just go inside, I’ll tell you later, I don’t want you to freak out.” Do you know what the family across the grass was doing? GUTTING A DEER.
We have tickets to see Jon Stewart in the next town over for tomorrow night. The Weather Channel says it’s never going to stop snowing. I’ve been looking forward to this for so long; I’ll be quite sad if it gets cancelled. :: shakes fist at sky ::
We are supposed to get between 1 and 3 inches of snow by tomorrow morning. God. If this is a free preview of the upcoming winter, then expect me to be blogging from Florida this time next year.
Degrassi High and Kevin Smith - perfect together.
