Keep Calm and Have a Cupcake
I just received some cupcake artwork I ordered from Etsy. Aren’t they adorable? I plan to hang them in the kitchen or dining room; haven’t decided. Originally I bought only the “Keep Calm” print, but due to a shipping mixup, Jenny was kind enough to give me another piece for free. Never have I been so thrilled to be on the wrong end of a snafu. Wonderful customer service and great products. Visit the Every Day is a Holiday store here.
Not So Much a Shrinky Dink
On the Sunday after Christmas, I was preparing to bake some cupcakes for a party we would be attending later. I preheated the oven, made the batter, carefully poured it into my liners and pans, and then opened the oven door to begin the baking process. Only to be met with something I’d never before seen or smelled.
Fall Photos
Some photos I took this morning. Click through to Flickr for details and more.
Backyard Hummingbird
For the past few years, I’ve been trying to court hummingbirds to the yard with various feeders and flowers. I never spotted one…until yesterday. Hooray! And it hung around long enough for me to grab the camera.
Geekboy = Hero
Yesterday afternoon I heard a strange noise coming from the backyard. A 30-second investigation revealed that something was stuck in our gutter downspout and was scrabbling to get out. My immediate and panicked reaction was to flee the house and drink wine with Beth. Today, an anonymous squirrel thanks the Geekboy, who struggled for an hour to take apart the downspout and pry out his little wedged ass.
Snootchie Bootchies!
The guy that came over to steam-clean our carpet looks exactly like Jason Mewes. Every time I look at him, I start laughing. I told him about the cat pee, and how we replaced the padding under the worst spot. He said, “You replaced the padding?” I said, “Yes, why, is that a problem?” He said, “No — I’ve just never come across anyone who’s taken that sort of initiative before.” I was all, “Little kid, you don’t know WHAT I’m capable of.”
So, Yeah, That Happened
Last night we ripped the padding out from under the area of the carpet where LL peed. The area underneath is concrete, thank goodness, and from the looks of it recently sealed as well. I’ve been treating the carpet (front and back) with a rotating cast of characters like Bio-Kleen, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and vinegar. The smell has dissipated but is by no means gone. I’m so bummed. I guess I’ll just keep at it for a few days. Then we’ll replace the padding and hope for the best.
The Morning Routine
After the jump, see how things roll in my house. Also note that me cooing “good boooooyyyyy” is pretty much the only conversation I have, ALL DAY.
All I Know Is I’m Sorry I Missed It
What sort of scenario do you think occurred in our lot last night that left my parking space scattered with this?
Recycling Compact Fluorescent Bulbs
Home Depot recently announced that they will take your old compact fluorescent bulbs for recycling. This is great news — you can’t dispose of CFLs the way you can a traditional bulb, as CFLs contain trace amounts of mercury. Hoping this means more people will begin adopting CFLs in their home.
