Across The Universe

Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at 08:46am

Last night we watched Across The Universe by Julie Taymor. We liked it. I was afraid it was just going to be randomly thrown together Beatles songs with trippy visuals and a clunky storyline. Glad I was wrong. Obviously, the songs drive the story, but the story worked. The guy that played the lead, Jude, was head and shoulders above the rest of the cast, though. The cameos were great fun and included Bono, Salma Hayek, Joe Cocker and Eddie Izzard. I woke up this morning with songs in my head. Read the rest of this entry »

Free Radio

Monday, February 11, 2008 at 10:31am

Did anyone catch Free Radio on VH1 over the weekend? I caught a couple of episodes and became an instant fan. Lance Krall = Hilarious. You know how you’ll just put something on the tv, for some background noise, and thirty minutes later you find yourself yelling for husband to get the hell downstairs because he needs to see this? Just me? Anyway, some clips after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

The King of Kong

Thursday, February 07, 2008 at 11:49am

Donkey Kong Last night the geekboy and I watched The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. If you haven’t heard of it, in a nutshell, it’s a documentary about two guys vying for the world’s highest Donkey Kong score.

Let me tell you, I spent the first 20 minutes of this movie making fun of every single person I saw on screen, and feeling superior to all of them. Then, something turned. I found myself on the edge of my seat, rooting for Steve and booing for Billy. We were suddenly watching a battle of Hero versus Villain; it was crazy.

Spoilers in the comments, fair warning.

A Love Note To Balance Bar

Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 10:51am

Oh, Caramel Nut Blast Balance Bar, having you in my life is like getting to eat a Snickers bar every day. I heart everything about you. You are a perfect breakfast, a superb pre-workout snack, and just having you in my life has made me a better person. If I could, Balance Bar, I would take you out behind the middle school and get you pregnant.

Veggie Crisps

Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 02:47pm

This week’s food obsession is Veggie Crisps. I have an unfortunate addiction to chips and I simply can’t eat lunch without something crunchy to go along with it. These fit the bill and also come in 100-calorie packs so I don’t go insane and dump the whole bag into my gullet. They’re certainly not health food, but I think they’re a better choice than regular fried potato chips. Today, I paired them with tomato soup. YUM.
