It’s always a challenge getting new kittens to use the litterbox. Or, once you get them to use it, ensuring they don’t step in poo and track it all over the place. Yesterday afternoon Matt pooped in his bed and then tracked it everywhere. And last night, Ben peed on the floor and I picked him up unknowingly, where he continued to pee on my leg. The geekboy removed their big-boy litterbox and put in a smaller one, hoping that might help. Can you believe that this morning, we both woke up early so we could check the box? Like little kids checking for Santa? I’m not proud.

And in case you were wondering, they still hadn’t used it. And then Ben looked at me with his adorable little face, hopped into the box and took the teeniest, tiniest, steaming poo.

Last night, before I could stop her, Meena licked some of my Tom’s of Maine toothpaste directly out of the tube. Oh, it was glorious. From the bubbling to the non-stop drooling to the extreme confusion, it was a perfect example of why Meena is the best cat ever. And this morning she tried to get to it AGAIN!

I just watched Meena stroll across my desk, sniff around and then daintily pick up a thumbtack with her teeth, presumably to eat. And she was incredibly angry when I slapped it out of her mouth. I am at a loss. Last week, the geekboy and I had to start covering our toothbrushes with a paper cup, as I caught her LICKING our brushes when she thought I wasn’t looking. How long has she been doing that? Do I want to know? Right now she is sitting next to me on the desk, staring at me hard enough to burn a hole into my face.

We were supposed to get a huge snowstorm last night, and instead we got jack. I was so looking forward to snow, I can’t even tell you. What a disappointment. Why do I even bother listening to the weather? They know NOTHING. This morning we had to take the kittens back to the shelter. I am equal parts relieved and sad. Maybe a little more on the sad side. I can’t bring myself to clean up their room and put away their stuff quite yet…we sent them off to their new home with two of their favorite toys. I hope they have a happy life.

The kittens will likely be leaving us on Friday to go to their new home. It’s going to be sad, as we’ve all gotten quite attached to each other. It is simply impossible to start off your day in a bad mood when you can walk into a room and have two wiggly little fuzzfaces crawl all over you and rub your face and purr purr purr. The kittens are at the vet today, getting neutered. The poor things. They hate being in that carrier. The time that they each spend in surgery will be the longest they’ve ever been apart from each other.
