Bush’s new Supreme Court nominee is a Jersey boy. An ultraconservative, anti-choice Jersey boy. Ack.

  1. Well … Bush did a pretty good job of scaring me for Halloween.

So what’s everybody’s take on this? I’d like to think that with Bush’s current low ratings, not to mention all the scandal surrounding his administration, there’s no way in hell the Democrats will simply let this Scalia clone slide by … right? They’ll filibuster till the end of time … right? And Bush will eventually be forced to nominate somebody who’s actually a realistic replacement for O’Connor … right?

Or will the Democrats bluster a bit, make a big stink, gradually get worried about seeming “difficult”, then eventually bend over and take it — leaving the rest of us unable to sit down for the next 10 years or so?

  2. I hope for the first 2 options you give, but I fear for the last. Not because I understand a thing about the US politics, but because shit happens.

  3. I hate to sound dumb, but where did we leave this whole filibuster thing?

  4. Last I heard, the filibuster thing was left with a tenuous deal between CapHill Dems and Repubs wherein: a) the R’s promised not to vote away the filibuster IF b) the D’s promised not to use it, which promise they agreed to make IF c) either W didn’t nominate a whackjob right wing nutcase and/or the R’s refused to support same.

Far as I’m concerned, Roberts negated this deal on both freakin’ sides but whatever. Ass. Holes. All of them. (Yeah, I know, Rehnquist wasn’t O’Connor, minority party has limited power, or a more elaborate excuse, whatever.)

GeekBoy, I’d like to think the same thing you’d like to think, but I’d need the help of a copious amount of Demerol in order to be capable of thinking it. Because what I really think? Is that last thing you said, except for much longer than 10 years.

  5. Yeah, I’m in the “we’re boned” camp. Vote your asses off in 2006, people. Vote like the wind!
