Bull charges bullfight spectators
Shannon emailed me this story about a bull who charged into the stands during a bullfight. The mayor says, “We need to take preventative measures to avoid that a situation of this nature happens again.” Why are people surprised when animals act like animals? Abuse animals for fun and profit and then when they panic and try to save themselves, stab them to death. Pathetic.

Remember a few years back when the jogger was killed by a mountain lion in Los Angeles? Tragic yes, but their defense when questioned why they weren’t tracking it to kill was spot on = “It was just a mountain lion being a mountain lion.”

Seems to me that the best “preventative measure” would be to stop this bullfighting altogether.

The mayor says, “We need to take preventative measures to avoid that a situation of this nature happens again.†Therefore, he is authorizing tapping phone lines to monitor calls from bulls.

In Ontario they’ve banned bully breed dogs. Because kids were getting hurt. If I remember correctly, many of the kids injured or killed by these dogs were the children of the dog owners. Call me crazy, but doesn’t that suggest that the problem lies with the owner, not the dog? These dogs are trained to be so aggressive and then the owners don’t respect the characteristics that they themselves have instilled into their pets. So the dogs get put down for behaving in a manner they’ve been trained to do. Current, responsible pet owners are requred to muzzle their dogs in public as the breed is “phased out”.
It’s always the animal’s fault.

Word, Maggie. As the owner of a pit-bull mix (who hates other dogs but loves people), I hate it when people generalize that all of a certain breed are vicious or dangerous. I have known a few seriously mean cocker spaniels, for example. Granted, a bite from a smaller dog doesn’t have the effect that the bite of a larger dog has, but any type of dog has the potential to be dangerous. Not just the so called “vicious dog breeds” like pits, german shepherds, dobermans, rotts, etc.

What do you call a bull that charges the stands during a bullfight?
A pretty good start. (To borrow an old lawyer joke punchline)
In a similar vein, I cover traffic from a helicopter for a living and I see tragic things all the time but it’s harder to muster compassion for people who have quite obviously gone ridiculous amounts over speed limits.
