Boot Camp, Take 3

I started a third cycle of Boot Camp yesterday. I’ve settled into a 4-week on, 4-week off schedule. It makes more sense for me financially, and I can do some reasonably similar workouts at home during my “off” time. Of course, the past six weeks or so have been extremely difficult for me and I kind of slacked a bit on the fitness routine. So yesterday was a good jump start, especially since I apparently gained about four pounds this summer. F*ck.

Yesterday’s session was pretty typical and easier than I had expected, considering my recent diet/fitness routine of popcorn, red wine and walking to the mailbox. We do our workouts outside (until it gets too cold), but fall is on its way so we’ve been starting each workout in the dark. It’s so weird! But it’s nice to be outside when the sun comes up, and the weather isn’t too cold yet. The cold aggravates my asthma terribly. I did another session this morning (I usually do M-W-F, but I want to take tomorrow off). It went just fine, but then I got home and attempted to walk up the stairs and THAT’S when every muscle in my body said “good morning” by tensing up and then refusing to move. If my cleaning lady hadn’t been on her way over, I probably would have just napped on the steps for a while.

  1. So bummed I couldn’t do it with you this time around, especially since the last two mornings I have been up by 4:30 anyway! Unfortunately, I can’t just do my workout then because the treadmill wakes up the boy.

  2. Hey, I’m on that diet/fitness routine, too! Well, except replace “popcorn” with “breakfast tacos and pizza.” On Labor Day I got a wild hair up my butt and decided to go for a run/walk around the big hike & bike trail here, did a couple of miles at most. I was in soooo much pain all week.

  3. Well, you could do your strength training at 4:30am and then do cardio later. ;)

The group is on the smaller side this time. A couple rookies, which makes me happy because then Sherree doesn’t try to kill us. There were about five of us this morning, praying a rookie would show up because Sherree was all, “Ohhhhh it’s all veterans today.” Luckily, one did, and we all cheered.

  4. Heather, I would seriously kill someone for a breakfast taco right now!

  5. I did a proper pre-dawn 4.5 run, which set my day! I’m so happy you are in boot camp again!

  6. I have asthma, and next time try chewing a piece of gum when you work out. It helps cut down the mucus that coats my throat (and then my lungs) when I doing anything physical.

Not that you shouldn’t have an inhaler and yada yada, but try the gum thing and see if it helps.

  7. You told me that before, and I still haven’t tried it. Must remember to try it when it gets colder.
