Boot Camp – Day Ten

So, boot camp is now half over. Today was fun. We paired off (Beth and I were buddies, of course) and played a game the trainer calls “Minesweeper.” We jogged out to the tennis court, where she had set up a field of plastic discs. Underneath each one was an exercise — cardio or strength. That’s all we did for the hour, ran back and forth doing cardio or weights. The time went super quickly.

I weighed myself the very first day of boot camp and then again last Friday, and noticed I had actually lost a couple of pounds. This morning I weighed myself again. I was hoping to have lost a little this week, but I haven’t. In fact, I’ve gained a quarter of a pound (although really, a good poop will probably take care of that, heh). I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit discouraged. The logical part of my brain is really proud that I’ve done 10 days, though!

Sounds like you might be adding some muscle mass, which isn’t a bad thing. Muscle weight more than fat by volume, so your BMI is surely improving.

  2. I guess I won’t know for sure until the end of the last week, when she’ll do my measurements again and compare from Week 1.

Overall, I’m feeling good. This stuff is really difficult for me. I was one of those kids that hated gym and was chubby and couldn’t keep up and got made fun of. This is like living it all over again. But people are nicer this time. #

I’m with Dave. I’ve been really working hard lately to shed 10 pounds—running FAST 3.2 miles a day and various weights, mostly abs. God help me—the scale did not budge for weeks and weeks, and at a certain point it crept up a pound or 3. But I was getting faster and visibly thinner. As of yesterday, 2 months into this 7 day a week campaign, the scale is down 4 pounds, which is really disheartening, except I am much thinner in the areas I was really trying to get a hold of. I’m thinking it is going to start coming down any day, and if not, F the scale.

I’m so happy to hear you say the word fun when talking about a 6AM workout! I’m proud of you!

  4. Shan, you looked great the last time I saw you. I mean you always do, but the change is noticeable. Yay!

It’s definitely all about measurements and tone. The 2 times I did weight watchers and got down to the low 150s I was a full size different, and it was all because the second time around I was doing yoga, spinning and cardio kickboxing about 3-4 days a week. So try to be patient and look for changes at the end when she measures you (hard to do I know). Also, I don’t do boot camp classes because of that gym class trauma – even in my kickboxing classes I used to feel like I was once again the chubby uncoordinated girl.

  6. I still am the chubby uncoordinated girl. Only this time it doesn’t bother me so much. #
