Blog Blues
Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 08:48amI’ve noticed that the blog has had a big drop in activity lately. I don’t know if people are simply busy, if I’m losing readership, if I haven’t been blogging about anything worth discussing, or what. It’s probably a combination of a lot of things. I’m feeling really burned out on blogging lately and it appears I’m mostly just shouting into the void anyway. Maybe I should take a break? I don’t know.
I’m just…uninspired.

Bluebunny on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 9:07 am
Please DO NOT STOP BLOGGING. Reading your blog is one of the bright spots of my day. I know I don’t comment much but that is mainly because I usually feel like I have nothing original to say. I love this group though and would hate to see it go away.
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 9:14 am
Yikes, I was afraid that this post might come off as an attempt to get you all to tell me how awesome I am. Please know that’s not the case (I’ll leave that to other, more pathetic bloggers).
I guess I’m just trying to figure out why the activity level has dropped. I don’t think I plan to stop blogging anytime soon, but I do want to make sure that it’s worth it for everyone. What can I do to make things more fun? What am I not doing that I used to do? Stuff like that.
But thanks, BB.
Nicci J on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 9:27 am
“(I’ll leave that to other, more pathetic bloggers).” And this is why I <3 you.
I lurk, because I am grumpy, so I can’t really comment on why you’d think things have dropped off. Can we blame it on the changing weather? Global warming?
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 9:28 am
I blame George W. Bush.
Sandyjoys on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 9:35 am
I’ve noticed a drop in participation in all my usual interweb haunts. I think it has a lot to do with the nice weather and finals and just a busy time.
We need you around to hold our hands during the upcoming election because I’m really scared…
chuck on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 9:39 am
Uh… huh? Did you say something?
sandra on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 9:45 am
I only check a very small group of blogs on a regular basis, yours of course being one of them. I would be very sad to see it go, even if on haitus. My worry is that if you do take a break, you’ll never come back. Don’t go!
Charlie on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 9:49 am
Ebb and flow, my darling, highs and lows. It happens with life and with blogs. Get back to your roots. Why do you blog in the first place? Is it for us or for you? Don’t let us pressure you into posting or worry if you are not being fabulous…your loyal readers already know all of that…and why put that pressure on yourself if you aren’t earning tons of revenue from freakgirl? If this were your job and your livelihood relied on growing readership to satisfy the impression counts of your advertisers, I’d worry. Since that isn’t the case do what you like.
xo
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 9:49 am
Suck my balls, Chuck.
Sandyjoys, good point on the election. We are going to need each other.
sandra, I’m here for you!
and thanks, Charlie
Sara on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 10:09 am
I got a new job and don’t get to visit as often and I don’t think I’ve commented since. I also discovered Google reader so I usually read each post and then move on to the next blog on the list. But your posts (an comments) frequently leave me with something to think about. Plus I’m getting married in 18 days so I need to see pictures of kittens to take my mind off the stress. Why in the hell can’t people check a box on a stamped post card and put it in the mail?
How is LL doing? Haven’t heard about him in a while.
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 10:12 am
“Why in the hell can’t people check a box on a stamped post card and put it in the mail?”
Don’t get me started.
LL is doing well! He is getting ready for spring by leaving piles of hair all over the house. He is not thrilled about little Mattie Dee being around, and when he hisses at him it’s truly frightening. He’s a beggar and we can’t make a meal without him hanging around and shouting at us. He walks me to the bathroom every evening and sits outside the door while I pee, like a real gentleman. A few weeks ago he got really mad at us for not cleaning the litterbox out to his liking and pooped on our bedroom carpet.
Lake on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 10:12 am
Okay then - I won’t tell you how you’re my favorite blog or that my days would be sad without you… I’m leaving on vacation today and its going to be a long 10 days without my internet frosting!
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 10:13 am
Aw, thanks. Have a great vacation! We’ll miss you.
sandra on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 10:15 am
LL and I have the same way of letting people know when we’re mad at them. Neat.
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 10:29 am
ha!
Lee on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 10:40 am
I second what Charlie says. And beyond that, I think Freakgirl has been getting *more* fun–I’m loving the story threads. I always find your posts particularly original and fun and much better than posting pictures of “off looking” foster dogs every day. oh wait.
Michael on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 10:41 am
If you ever go, you’ll need to email me all your links, musings, dreams, and cupcake pictures (you can send the knitting and Affleck stuff to someone else), along with comments from the Freaknation.
Easier to just keep things the same. Live simple, bitch. (I thought you understood the zeitgeist.)
Grey Rainbow on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 10:54 am
i tend to lurk a couple times a day to catch up…. usually puts a smile on my face! understand if you need a break…how many years have you done this????
favorite stuff on your blog: anything w/animals particularly the kittays, pop culture, food, music and celebrities, story time, what are you wearing…..
least favorite: anything political!
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11:00 am
Lee, I just clicked to your site to see your “off looking foster dog” and almost spit up from laughing. Thanks for the smile - much appreciated.
Grey Rainbow, I’ve been blogging in some capacity for more than ten years now. Sweet jebus!

“Talk Hard”!
heather on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11:09 am
Nooooooo! Don’t go away, fg! I check your blog several times a day, although I have been lax on the commenting. Work’s been hectic.
Soosan on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11:12 am
Maybe there is an outbreak of carpal tunnel?
charlotte on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11:14 am
Wilbur, Fannie and I all vote for you to continue. We just don’t comment much because we are often reading the whole weeks posts at once, and figure our thoughts don’t mean much at that point.
Also, you should blame the unseasonably warm weather, weddings, baby showers, graduations and all the other crazy crap people just get insanely busy with at this time of the year. I don’t think it’s a reflection of you, or a quality issue. :o)
Soosan on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11:14 am
I hit ‘post’ too soon.
The peeps seem to like the contribution-centric posts. What are you wearing, complete the story (love that!) etc etc etc.
How about some more complete the caption type posts?
Sandy on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11:15 am
I knew if I left town things would fall apart (just got back from 10 days in Ireland and Paris).
But seriously, I agree with Charlie. We would miss you terribly but this is about you, not us.
oolookitty on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11:17 am
I will also chime in… I’ve had construction in my apartment making it hard for me to sit down in front of my computer… even my email is backed up like crazy. But your blog is normally on my daily read list, and I check in all the time even though I don’t always comment…
So stick around! Please!
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11:21 am
Soosan, the geekboy just pointed out to me that I haven’t done a Caption This since last fall.
Sandy, I’m jealous.
Michelle on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11:59 am
I think that because I have a new baby that it has made me drop off on much of my internet surfing. I still like to read your blog but just don’t have the time.
Marjon on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 12:06 pm
I wanted to make a joke about the more pathetic bloggers, but you beat me to it.
I just don’t have much to say these days. You can see that on my blog too.
charlsa on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 12:17 pm
I’m still here! Every day - sometimes more than once. I just lurk and laugh most of the time- but I’m here!
Jenny on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 12:51 pm
I enjoy your blog! I just tend to lurk and not post comments because you seem like you all know each other and I feel kind of like that fat kid sitting on the swing set while all the other kids are playing kickball.
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 12:56 pm
We mostly all know each other from the blog, actually. There are friends IRL, but I probably haven’t met a majority of you.
So join in, fat kid!
Jen in OH! on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Yeah, like Marjon, I’m kind-of in a quiet mode lately, plus I’ve been spending a lot less time online due to various offline concerns. But whenever I’m surfing, this is one of the few places where I’m still consistently coming around, so while of course I cheerlead for you to do whatever in the fuck you want, I’d really miss you if you wuz gone.
Soosan on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Jenny I didn’t post at first either because I had that same assumption… but then I realized even if that were true (that everyone knew each other), that it didn’t really matter. Tis a good group that is welcoming to all.
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Emily on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Um you can all speak for yourselves with the “it’s about you” business! Fine, I’m a brat, but I am not afraid to say I selfishly would be very very sad if I didn’t have your blog to check every day. I’ve been a pretty loyal reader for about 7 years now, even if I don’t comment as much as I used to. I read them, but I don’t often comment. Ok sometimes I’m intimidated by the genius that is FG and GB’s comments
. Sorry I’m not being kiss-ass, that’s for real. Anyway, no joke, I have thought before to myself “what if FG stops posting…” you just have such similar taste in politics, pop culture, every day life events, to so many of us, and you put them out there in a nice, concise, non-proselytizing or self-important manner. I don’t know, it’s like my own interactive all-encompassing Daily Show or something where I get the gamut of emotions that I feel anyway every day by interacting in the world, but somehow this is more personal. (yes I realize that that statement only makes sense in my head.)
So fine for the rest of you to let FG off the hook with the “get back to your roots and only do it for yourself,”—no, do it for us b/c, well, not to be 5 yrs old, but…. “you started it!”
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Emily. That is the nicest thing I’ve read in, well, a long time.
Like I said, I didn’t start this thread so you guys could kiss my butt, but it’s kind of feeling pretty good.
nora on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 1:38 pm
does rss reading get noted in the activity logs? because i read through bloglines.com multiple times a day (and click through a lot of the time to see expanded posts or comment). i hope that gets noted.
i think i’ve been reading the site for six or seven years now, so, thanks.
CCC on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 1:39 pm
I lurk. But I’m on your site a few times every day. Really enjoy your updates. There’s just *something* about freak girl, I guess.
Plus you’ve turned me on to many things.
CaliKitty on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 1:42 pm
You’re fiendishly funny!! I read your site every day and have been doing so for several years! Keep writing about the kitties and celeb-bashing, if all else fails. Certainly plenty to write about there :-) Oh, and cupcakes! Eddie Izzard. Robbie Williams…
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 1:56 pm
I want to eat cupcakes with Eddie Izzard and Robbie Williams.
Michael on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Speaking of Eddie Izzard, wasn’t he kind of awesome in “Across the Universe?” Yay? Nay?
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 1:59 pm
I was definitely excited to see him in it, although he kind of got stuck with a shitty song.
Susie on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 2:00 pm
If you stopped blogging I’d have to take to emailing you 25 times a day. No one wants that, especially not you.
sandra on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Robin Williams would probably take your cupcakes and smoosh them all over his nipples just to be KA-RA-ZEE. What a waste.
Soosan on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Robbie Williams, Robin Williams… same diff?
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Um, no.
Susie, the reason I started blogging in the first place was so I didn’t email my friends and co-workers one hundred times a day.
sandra on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 3:19 pm
OMG I totally read ROBIN WILLIAMS! I’m such a loser!!! I thought it was weird that FG would love to do anything with Robin Williams, but makes sense about ROBBIE WILLIAMS.
I’m going to go poop on my own bedroom carpet now because I’m so mad at myself.
Jenny on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Wow, I can’t believe you called me fat. Hmmm…..

freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 4:27 pm
HEY YOU STARTED IT
eileen on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Late to the party, as usual, but i’ll chime in as well. I’m a frequent reader and an occasional/rare commentor (commenter? or? sounds sort of evil…The Commentor) and yeah, if you’re getting burnt out, feel free to take a break. I have no idea why traffic has gone down but I would wager that it has nothing to do with your content, but it’s due to the fact that most of your readers are grown-ups, and unfortunately, things like work, babies, houses, and whatnot get in the way.
I check in almost daily, but I’m sure those who don’t still enjoy popping in once a week to see what’s going on in Freakgirl land. Because, really, your blog is the F*(&ING FROSTING ON THE INTERNET! Emily’s spot on, comparing it to a personalized little Daily Show.
I know you didn’t intend for this to turn into a big ol’ compliment fest, but there were three blogs that eventually inspired me to start my own. Two of them were by college friends, and the third was by a hilarious girl from Jersey whom I had never met.
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 6:51 pm
How dare my readers grow up!
genevieve on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 9:13 pm
I’m also guilty of not posting most lately. I’ll use the excuse of being busy at work with a site redesign launching in 2 weeks and being busy at home with a baby launch in about 3! I do read still every day and I also check your flickr page for kitty pictures because I’m that much of a stalker
.
freakgirl on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 9:31 pm
I’m a stalker, too, then, because I check your flickr page to see how preggers you are looking lately.
Susie on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 10:07 am
You know, it just occurred to me. You know what you haven’t done in a long time? Ask Freakgirl. Any interest in doing one of those? I guess you’d have to do a call for questions.
freakgirl on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 10:11 am
Yeah, nobody sends me questions anymore. I guess I solved the world’s problems. Yay me.
Emily on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 2:01 pm
no way—I’m sure SOMEONE has a roommate’s room-pooping cat SOMEWHERE!!!!! HAHAHAHA
Laura on Monday, May 05, 2008 at 5:13 pm
It’s me, isn’t it? I haven’t read for a couple of weeks. It’s nothing personal! I’ve just been busy. ;-) Please don’t stop blogging, ever.
