So Page Six (that grand bastion of journalistic integrity) is reporting that Artie Lange indeed tried to commit suicide last week; he remains hospitalized with self-inflicted stab wounds. The Stern show is mostly refusing to comment on the issue, but their lack of denial over this latest report pretty much confirms it for me. So very sad. I hope this man can conquer his demons and recover. Best of luck to you, Artie.

I hadn’t heard this – that is really sad. I agree, usually Stern is pretty upfront about Artie’s issues, so if they’re keeping quiet, it is pretty serious.
Just shocking. I can’t fathom how hopeless and helpless he must have felt. I really miss him on the show, but, would rather he never came back if that is what he needs to get better. : (
How do you actually go through with STABBING yourself??
I read that this morning, and felt so sad. I can’t imagine being so miserable that I would do that to myself. And his poor mother, to walk in and find her son like that. What a hell they must all be in.
This is heartbreaking but not really shocking, especially after reading his book. Poor screwed up Artie — I only hope this forces him into being institutionalized long-term, because he really, really needs it.
This is sad but he does not need to end his life like this. He can surely work on it and make it better. This is not the way to die.

I’m still baffled by Howard saying he was waiting for Artie to call him, though. WTF?
I don’t know what Howard said. But can I assume he said that before he knew what happened?
No… yesterday morning when he talked about the Page 6 article, he said that he hadn’t talked to Artie. He said that Robin and Gary (I think) talked to him, but that he would wait for Artie to call him. I was like, ‘WHAT?!?”
Oh, I didn’t know that Robin & Gary had talked to him. Maybe Howard wants Artie to wait until he feels more comfortable. Howard is his boss, after all…I dunno.
