There's a huge push regarding paper ballots in Ohio right now, GB. It's been determined that with such complex tools as a PDA or a magnet (!) our current electronic voting machines can be compromised. They are scrambling to (re)implement verifiable paper ballots by the November election.

While we're on the subject of voting, don't forget to bug your senators and representatives about keeping the voting system clean this year.

Jersey rep Rush Holt is spearheading the "Confidence in Voting Act of 2008", which seeks to introduce verifiable paper ballots and random audits to the 2008 presidential election process -- a move that is long overdue. It's ridiculous to me that we as a country still need to even have this conversation SEVEN YEARS after the controversial Bush/Gore election. If I took this long to fix my car when it had a problem, I'd be hitchhiking to work by now.

"The overall goal is to have audited elections based on voter-verified paper ballots throughout the country," Holt said. "Audits must be completed and discrepancies resolved before certification of the winner. You could publish the results on Election Night, but they would not be final."

Thanks for reminding me! I moved a few months ago and never changed my registration. Come to think of it, I never let the DMV know, either.

Although I would like to add that yesterday, while writing thank you notes, I could remember that my uncle's street number was 12719, although I hardly ever see him, hardly ever send him anything and certainly have no legitimate reason to remember that particular set of numbers.

I moved into my current house in September and even though I did change of address through the post office & the DMV, I didn't get a new voter reg card (in the past, this was all it took). I went to the site so I could register with my new address and it asked for my old one. I couldn't remember it. I lived there for THREE YEARS and I JUST MOVED IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS and I couldn't even think of the first digit of my street address. I can't even say with certainty which apartment was mine either. I think it was #2, but then I think, "Wait, did I live in #3?" What is wrong with me?? I'm frightened.
