Advice on TMFT

You may have noticed I’ve been neglecting Too Much Free Time. It’s been neglected for quite a while now, actually, as I was the only person posting there for weeks and weeks. I don’t want to give it up but I can’t run it by myself, either. What do you guys think? Is it time to pack it in, time to go in a new direction (shorter recaps or some other sort of “hook” like my haiku recaps)? Perhaps it’s time to add some new people and new shows to the roster? Brainstorm in the comments, won’tcha?

  1. I wish I had too much free time… I’m lucky if I catch a show I like, much less read about it. Do what makes your life work.

  2. I miss Michael and his recaps of 24!
Maybe send out a call for volunteers to write brief recaps. What about a survey to see how many people are interested in certain shows?

  3. Well, you seem pretty overwhelmed these days so if this brings any further stress then put in on haitus for a while.

Lost is coming back very soon, and that show seemed to generate the most comments/interest. Maybe see if that breathes some new life into the site. It is definitely a fun place to visit after a good episode to see what others made of what happened and I’d miss it, but again, do what works for you right now.

  4. I really enjoy TMFT and it is nice to discuss episodes with people that get that snark is not the only reason to watch TV. If it is too much to keep up with though, I understand.

  5. It’s not too bad if I can keep the recap very brief — just to spark conversation. I know that Maggie’s LOST recaps are extremely well-written and very in depth. They take a lot of time. Maybe we don’t need to go so deep — just do conversation starters instead? A paragraph and a photo might do the trick.

And I would like to add more shows, which would mean adding more writers. Keep the ideas coming.

  6. More shows would be good. Suggestions include – Project Runway, 90210, Melrose Place, Burn Notice, 24, How I Met Your Mother, Criminal Minds..just to name a few.

  7. Other show suggestions: Glee, White Collar, Chuck

  8. I love the TMFT blog and miss it. I think shorter recaps would be just fine. Idea: one screen cap with something funny/witty written underneath that sums up the episode. Or combine with your haiku idea. If people want true recaps, there are a lot of other sites that do that very well already. The thing I miss most about TMFT is the conversation that happens in the comments. It’s a nice blog with normal & intelligent people discussing and analyzing rather than a lot of jerks that seem to show up on other blog comments.

  9. I’d be happy to cover Idol or something else again, if you’d like/there’s interest. Shorter recaps would be good, from my end, and perhaps more non-reality shows.

  10. Amy, I agree with you. Just conversation starters — a television amuse-bouche, perhaps!

GC, Idol didn’t seem to gain much traction last year but I can’t tell if that’s because TMFT isn’t the target demo or if the posts sometimes went up too long after the episode aired. Are you watching Caprica? Is anyone?

  11. ALSO — Once I get a redesign and a new vision for the site, I will probably put out a call for posters, okay?

  12. I would happy to contribute on the shows I watch.

  13. There should have been a “be” in there

  14. I would love to write some recaps. I need to put my jaded views to some good use.

  15. I haven’t been watching Caprica. I’ve heard it’s good, but I was just so turned off by the conclusion of BSG I couldn’t bring myself to invest again.

But when you’re ready, let me know, and I’m sure we can come up with something good for me to recap!

  16. I’m watching Caprica in the hopes that someday Eric Stoltz will buy someone a pair of diamond earrings.

  17. You look good wearing my future, mindy.
