Lisa is looking for travel advice! Help her out in the comments.
I’ve decided that I want to take a spa vacation. I want to go to a destination kind of place where I can relax, get some treatments, eat healthfully, take some classes, etc. I’d like to keep it within driving distance, so I’m thinking PA, NY, New England, etc. Would you ask the freaknation for suggestions, please & thank you?

Ooh… sounds great! I have 3 suggestions right off the top of my head:
1) If you want to go all-out, there’s always the Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA (http://www.canyonranch.com/res.....home.aspx). I’ve been to the one in AZ (thank you, Mom), and it was amazing. It’s insanely expensive, but if the Lenox one is anything like the one in AZ, you can’t lose.
More reasonably priced options (I haven’t been to either of these, but I know several people who have been to both):
2) New Age Health Spa in Neversink, NY (http://www.newagehealthspa.com/). Not nearly as swanky or lush, but I’ve heard good things about it — significantly more affordable.
3) Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health (http://www.kripalu.org/article/118). Also less expensive & swanky, although a little fancier than New Age, I think. A bunch of my friends went there for a girls’ weekend and they all had a great time and came back refreshed.
I don’t like it when people touch me.
I went to a really nice spa in CT several years ago – the Norwich Inn and Spa. Lovely pool, treatments, nice grounds and rooms, and restaurant with healthy, yummy stuff. I assume it is still around.
Thanks, folks. Keep those suggestions coming.
I don’t like it when people touch me either, Maggie. It’s something I’m trying to overcome, you know? I don’t know if I’ll get a massage, but I’m sure I can handle a facial & a manicure/pedicure.
My biggest fear/future challenge/fear of touching: ballroom dance lessons.

I have not been to Mohonk, but know a lot of people who love it. There’s a lot of hiking and nice gardens, as well as a spa.
Hope you find something great. It’s a terrific idea.
Sadly, I’m not often welcome at places with “spa” and “resort” in the title, but I’ve driven past a few….
The Sagamore–up on Lake George–nice, but don’t do this until black fly season’s over (ditto for the arrangements in the Adirondacks…
.
The Homestead–in Virginia–SWEET….
The Greenbrier (I think White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia–Appalachian crest)
If money is no object, and you want the meals to cost more than the space shuttle (but also provide shuttle-esque rewards), The Inn at Little Washington…
